Voltage Drop (typical)Tube Voltage Drop (derived from plate I/V curve at ~33 mA per plate)22
Notes
JAN 5852 / Bendix Red Bank Type TE-5. The 5852 is described by Bendix as 'Generic Type 6X5' and is a pin-for-pin drop-in replacement for the 6X5GT family on the standard Octal base.
Physically shares its datasheet with two heater-voltage variants: 5839 (TE-2, 26.5 V / 0.255 A) and 5838 (TE-3, 12.6 V / 0.6 A). All three tubes are electrically identical apart from filament rating and are intended for different supply buses.
Octal base, 6 active pins (intermediate-shell octal with barriers, Melamine). Pinout is the same as 6X5GT: pin 2 = filament/heater, pin 3 = plate 2, pin 5 = plate 1, pin 7 = filament/heater, pin 8 = cathode, pins 1, 4 and 6 = open (no pin — NOT 'no connection'). Bendix specifically notes 'Do not connect leads to number 1 pin'.
Maximum ratings per Bendix datasheet: peak inverse voltage 1375 V, peak plate current 230 mA per plate, DC heater-cathode potential 450 V, total plate supply impedance 150 Ω min per plate. Max DC output current from Rating Chart: ≈70 mA with cap input or ≈75 mA with choke input at 350 V rms per plate — the curated reference table lists 65 mA DC output for the 5852 specifically.
Tube voltage drop ≈22 V at 33 mA per plate (≈65 mA DC output) derived from the Bendix 'Average Plate Characteristics' curve — the curve shows about 22 V at 30 mA and about 28 V at 40 mA per plate. Consistent with the published 6X5 Vdrop of 22 V.
Eight-pillar mount structure with button-type stem, heavy-gauge heater with pure alumina insulator, moderate-temperature large-area cathode for long life and freedom from arc-overs. 45-hour pre-run-in under overload, vibration and shock.
Frequently marketed as 'Bendix 6X5GT' in the audio rolling world — prized for its exceptional ruggedness, quiet operation and very long life relative to civilian 6X5 types.
6X5.json in this repo already lists 5852 as an equivalent — that linkage is bidirectional and correct.
