The diffusion-bonded cathode virtually eliminates plate-to-cathode arcing caused by emissive particles being pulled from the cathode by the high electrostatic field — a major failure mechanism in damper diodes.
Socket terminals 1, 3, 6, and 8 should not be used as tie points. It is recommended that the socket tabs be removed to reduce arc-over possibility and minimize leakage.
PIV rating of 5500V applies when the voltage pulse duration does not exceed 15% of one horizontal scanning cycle (10 µs in a 525-line, 30-frame system).
Maximum heater-cathode voltage is very high: peak +300V/-5500V, average +100V/-900V.
Widely used in DIY audio power supplies as a high-voltage rectifier. Leben CS-600 amplifier uses this tube type.
